If you are afraid of the dentist, you are not alone. As many as one in five adult Americans cope with dental anxiety to one degree or another. In fact, it seems to be universal. At Wesley P. Yemoto DDS in San Jose, we provide a comfortable environment and sedation dentistry options to get you through your appointment.
We carefully explain the findings of the initial dental examination and thoroughly outline any recommended procedures. The consultation also includes a discussion about pain control including oral conscious sedation medications. This allows our patients to make informed decisions about their oral health and necessary dental procedures.
Oral Conscious Sedation
With oral conscious sedation you are never fully asleep, but you will be sleepy. You’ll probably slur your words once the medication takes effect. It is a safe and effective form of sedation dentistry.
When the procedure is over, you will not remember much about it. You’ll still be feeling groggy and will need to have someone take you home.
Oral conscious sedation ranges from minimal to moderate, depending on the dosage. Most often a pill is given about an hour before your procedure.
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is available. It may not make you laugh, but it will definitely make you very relaxed. Nitrous oxide is safe and effective, and has been used in dentistry for more than one hundred years.
